How to sort your clothes

Sort clothes in piles,

    • To keep (these are the right colour and style)
    • Maybe to keep (wrong colour but correct style)
    • To sell/get rid of (wrong colour and style)

Clothes need to be graded into Spring/Summer and Autumn/winter.

Pile 1:

organise clothes into categories jackets, suits, skirts, trousers, dresses etc

Hang jackets on good quality coat hangers and use skirt hangers for trousers as well. Try to use shoe trees and boot supports where possible.

Pile 2:

Review a second time to see if it is really required, and if so decided how you can make it work better. Perhaps finding some accessories or a scarf etc. maybe a change to the length is all that is required to say a skirt.

Pile 3

Grade garments into clothes for possible sale at a dress agency or to go to friends or the charity shop.

Capsule Wardrobe

Once the above has been completed then you can view the capsule wardrobe guidelines and see how certain garments could begin to integrate into this plan Capsule Wardrobe Guidelines.

  • The ultimate aim is to use 80% of your wardrobe 80% of the time. Most people only wear about 20%, 80% of the time!
  • It is easy to keep clothes for ‘best’ and unfortunately by the time you end up deciding to wear them they will probably be out of date!
  • Think carefully about the colour and shape you buy.
  • Choose neutral colours for investment pieces so that you get the maximum use from them.
  • Remember we need more clothes for the Autumn/Winter season so allocate a larger * budget for these items.
  • Choose ‘mid’ weight fabrics that can be layered up or down and thus worn more of the year.

*

If your not sure what you can afford to spend look at a debit or credit card that you mainly use to get an idea of your average spend over a year!!!
